i want to address the scent longevity because it is the question i had going in that most reviews did not answer directly. the peppermint smell is strong when you first place the balls and moderates over the following days to a consistent background level that i can still detect in the treated areas two months later. i have not replaced any of the balls yet and the deterrent effect appears to be continuing — no activity in treated areas while the one untreated corner of my basement showed evidence of a visit until i added a ball there. that differential between treated and untreated areas in the same space is the most compelling evidence i have that these are actually working rather than that the mice happened to stay away on their own
